Why are Neighbours and Home and Away not on today and when are they back?
We’ve become accustomed to getting our daily dose of soaps from Down Under on Channel 5, with new episodes of Neighbours and Home and Away airing like clockwork every weekday.
Today however, there are no new episodes of either soap on the channel – which may lead fans to wonder when they’re getting their next bit of action from Summer Bay and Ramsay Street.
Just what’s happened to Home and Away and Neighbours – and when will they be back?
Here’s what you need to know…
Why are Home and Away and Neighbours not on today?
Both Home and Away and Neighbours – like their British soap counterparts – have fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic, having suspended filming as a result.
As a result of this their schedules have been changed, with episodes cut to two a week in order to ensure they remain on air for as long as possible.

A spokesperson said of the change: ‘As a result of Covid-19, we have taken the decision to reduce the number of episodes for Neighbours and Home and Away from five to two per week for both soaps, so that our viewers can continue to enjoy them for as long as possible.
‘Both programmes will air on Monday and Fridays, effective from Monday 30th March.’
When will Home and Away and Neighbours be back?
As confirmed by Channel 5 the next episodes of both soaps will air on Friday.
Home and Away shut down filming earlier this month in the wake of the pandemic, while Neighbours took a break from filming before resuming again.
However they too have now halted production, initially taking a two week Easter break from shooting instead of their usual one week off.
To allow us to refine the Neighbours production model in light of the current Government restrictions in place, Fremantle has decided to start its planned Easter break one week earlier than scheduled, and the series will break for two weeks from the end of shoot this evening (March 27).’
‘The health, safety and well-being of our cast and crew and all involved on the series is our priority. Production is planned to resume April 14 with no interruption to on-air delivery.’
It is not currently known when Home and Away will resume filming.
The coronavirus outbreak has had a similar effect on UK soaps, with EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks all having suspended production – with their weekly episodes also being cut back.
