Spoilers: The new owners of the Queen Vic revealed in EastEnders?
There’s all sorts of things to keep up with in EastEnders right now: Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) finally saying ‘I love you’ to Callum Highway (Tony Clay), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) and her lies about having cancer — not to mention all of the recent schedule changes!
However, one thing that we’ve started thinking about is who will take over as the new owners of the Queen Vic following Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) decision to leave the pub in a bid to remove temptation from Linda’s life following her battle with alcoholism.
So who could it be? Someone new? Or perhaps the return of an old face? We’ve brought you 10 people who could be the new owners of the boozer at the heart of Albert Square.
Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) spent some time away from the Square after his showdown with Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) on board the boat, and he recently returned to pay his respects on the day of adopted son Dennis’ (Bleu Landau) funeral.
After he returned to Walford, we saw him hand himself into the police as his fight with Keanu was the cause of the boat crash — and therefore Dennis’ death.
If Phil doesn’t end up in prison for his actions, becoming the new pub owner would be a focus for him to distract himself from Dennis’ death. It would also mean that he would feel closer to his mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor).
But if Phil is still feeling guilty and grieving for the loss of Dennis, could owning the pub be a negative distraction? He is also an alcoholic, so a pub might not be the best place for him right now.
Chance of Phil becoming the new owner: High chance
Taking on her new ‘be more Jean’ lease on life, could the delight that is Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) take over from Linda as the new landlady?
It would certainly be a surprise to us all, but then a new and surprising owner could be just what we need to see. It would certainly help the Slaters’ out with their ever-continuing worries about being evicted from their current house, but where would Jean find the money from? A secret investment from her late partner Daniel Cook (Ade Edmondson) perhaps?
Chance of Jean becoming the new owner: Low chance
Ian Beale & Sharon Watts
While Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) probably has enough businesses to his name, we’re wondering if he may buy the Queen Vic for his best friend Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) in an attempt to detract from the guilt he is feeling after locking Dennis below deck on the boat?
It may also help Sharon move forward after losing her son, but would she think of it as a very generous gesture? Or would she grow suspicious as to why her friend has bought her such a huge gift so soon after the death of her son?
Chance of Ian buying the Queen Vic for Sharon: High chance
Now here us out on this, Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) is the lovable, protective father of Keegan (Zack Morris), Bailey (Kara-Leah Fernandes) and Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) and is also someone that we can see as the new owner of the Queen Vic!
He’s entrepreneurial — we know this from the time he tried to make gin in his bathtub to sell — but above all, how inspiring would it be for Keegan and Bailey? Keegan has been struggling to come to terms with how he has been treated differently, so if Mitch became owner of the Vic, it would certainly show both him and Bailey that you can get what you want in life.
Chance of Mitch becoming the new owner: Medium chance
We’re talking about a current resident of Walford taking on the Queen Vic, but we could be completely wrong. Could we maybe be looking at welcoming a completely new face behind the bar? A new family? A new couple? Or perhaps one new person?
Chance of someone new becoming the owner: Medium chance
An old face
EastEnders never shy away from the return of an old character, so maybe we are about to see the return of a major character as the new owner of the Queen Vic. But who could it be? The return of the formidable Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks)? Someone we haven’t seen for years, like Christian (John Partridge) and Syed (Marc Elliot)?
Chance of an old face returning as the new owner of the Queen Vic: Low chance
Suki — one of the newest residents of Walford — becoming landlady would be a complete game-changer. It would certainly be an interesting one, as we’ve already seen that she is capable of manipulating her children into thinking she has cancer, so could she convince them to buy the pub for her?
If Suki is the new owner and the Walford residents are already aware of her lying about having cancer, could this potentially be a bad decision for Mick and Linda to hand the keys over to her?
Chance of Suki becoming the new owner: Medium chance
Yes Mick and Linda are leaving their roles of landlord and landlady of the pub, but that doesn’t mean they won’t pass the reins onto another Carter. We know Shirley (Linda Henry) owns a percentage of the pub, so could they hand over the books to her? Or could we be seeing the return of an old Carter to run the pub? Maybe Lee (Danny-Boy Hatchard)? Or perhaps we could be welcoming Nancy (Maddy Hill) back to Walford?
Chance of another Carter becoming the new owner: Medium chance
One that’s definitely a bit further down on our list is Max Branning (Jake Wood). We haven’t seen all that much of Max just recently but honestly, the thought of him becoming the new owner sounds pretty good.
He’s a businessman, and purchasing the pub would mean a brand new life for him and baby Abi.
Sure, it would be a surprise but — long term — we could see it happening! It would also mean that Max would feel closer to son Bradley and daughter Abi — both of whom died after falling off the Queen Vic roof. Mind you, this could bring back some bad memories.
Chance of Max becoming the new owner: Low chance
Chantelle and Gray
As Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) continues to abuse his wife Chantelle (Jessica Plummer), one thing we’re continuing to see is his desperation to keep Chantelle away from work.
Her shifts have already been drastically reduced in the hair salon and after Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol) offered her some work in his call centre business, this angered Gray even more.
One way of keeping Chantelle in his clutches would be if Gray bought the Vic from Mick and Linda and the two of them became the new owners. But if Gray and Chantelle spend the next phase of their lives together behind the Queen Vic bar — a place where so many Walford residents spend their evenings — would this increase the chances of Gray cracking under pressure? If so, his abuse of Chantelle could come to light.
Chance of Chantelle and Gray becoming the new owners: High chance
We don’t know who the new owners of the Queen Vic will be, but what we do know is that as Mick and Linda prepare to pack up their lives and move onto pastures new, the news that they are leaving will come as a shock to the Walford clan. Will we find our favourites attempting to pitch their plans and ideas to Mick and Linda? Will it cause friction between friends and family?
We’ve got our ‘new home’ card bought, now we just need a name to send it to!
EastEnders continues Monday April 6 at 8pm on BBC One.
