GB News host pays tribute to ‘brave’ Anne Diamond after ‘difficult’ diagnosis

GB News hosts pay tribute to Anne Diamond

Anne Diamond presents Breakfast with Stephen and Anne on weekends for GB News but hasn’t been seen on the show since January 1.

On the latest Breakfast instalment on the channel, Ellie Costello and Martin Daubney revealed Anne has been battling breast cancer as they showed part in an interview with GB News’ Dan Wootton.

The pair paid tribute to Anne for being “so brave” after her candid announcement in which she fought back tears.

Viewers sent wishes of a speedy recovery on social media as Anne explained she still isn’t “at the end of the journey” but would be back on screens on Saturday.

Ellie, who has been standing in for Anne, went on to detail how she has been flooded with questions from viewers asking after Anne.

“Now, it has been so wonderful presenting this show for the past six months,” Ellie stated on Friday morning.

She continued: “It has been a joy and a privilege, but we know that so many of you have been emailing asking every weekend where our lovely Anne Diamond is.”

Martin added: “Just want to say, by the way, it’s been a privilege working with you.”

“Ah thanks – you too,” Ellie smiled at her co-star before he added: “You’ve been so kind and welcoming to me.”

Martin went on: “Well, last night she [Anne] spoke to Dan Wootton in an exclusive interview, explaining why Anne Diamond has been absent for this long.

“She started by telling him, ‘It was quite a journey.'”

A clip from the interview showed a tearful Anne explaining: “My last appearance on GB News was on January 1, and I knew then that I would be going away for a while.

“And I haven’t been on a world cruise which is what I know social media has been saying – I’m well known now for loving cruises.

“It’s been a fight against breast cancer – that’s what it’s been.

“Five months later, I’m still not at the end of the journey but I’m through it enough to come back to work.”

“Oh, so brave, isn’t she?” Ellie reflected, adding: “And it has been difficult for the past six months.

“I’ve had so many messages and emails asking, ‘Is Anne okay?’ It’s not your news to share, you know.

“So we’ve just said she’s well she’s fine, but she has been, in her own words, on a journey and she’s so brave.”

“And coming back tomorrow,” Martin remarked before continuing: “But still raw, still ongoing treatment, everyone’s going to be really chuffed to have her back.”

Breakfast airs daily at 6am on GB News.
