13 times the royal family couldn’t believe their eyes: from a surprise proposal to exciting football match

Photo: © Getty Images

We love it when we're reminded that members of the royal family are just like us – minus the responsibility, power and wealth. While their daily schedules are mapped out to a T, there are times that they just can't prepare for, like the shock of a surprise proposal during a royal outing, or when the Duchess of Cornwall appeared startled by a horse race. These instances of utter disbelief make for some incredible moments. Here are the pictures to prove it…

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had the best facial expressions when they witnessed a surprise proposal at the Endeavour Fund Awards in March. Harry and Meghan both smiled and applauded, while Meghan was seen placing her hands on her chest, after a military veteran proposed to his partner on stage. The couple later invited the newly-engaged couple to speak with them privately after the awards ceremony finished.

Kate Middleton

The Duchess of Cambridge appeared both shocked and amused after Princess Charlotte playfully poked her tongue out towards the crowds during the King's Cup royal sailing regatta last August. The moment came when Kate encouraged Charlotte and Prince George to wave to the crowd through a window, but while George walked away down a flight of stairs, Charlotte instead decided to pull the funny face – while Kate couldn't stop giggling. It was later revealed that the five-year-old stuck her tongue out because she'd spotted her granddad Michael Middleton down below!

Prince George

In October 2019, the Cambridges surprised royal watchers as they stepped out for the Norwich City v Aston Villa football match. The royals cheered on their team, Aston Villa, but it was Prince George's reaction to player Conor Hourihane's goal against Norwich that really caused a stir. The young Prince couldn't contain his excitement, jumping up and down and punching the air with joy. Even when dad Prince William asked him to calm down, the little lad paid no attention and continued his adorable celebrations. But William, who is mad about football, also couldn't help himself as he celebrated another goal, throwing his fist into the air.

Princess Diana

Princess Diana appeared surprised in 1980 after stalling her new red Mini Metro outside her Earl's Court flat when leaving for a job as a nursery teacher in Pimlico. This snap was taken by photographers in the midst of speculation about her romance with Prince Charles. You must admit – stalling the car is pretty awkward even without paparazzi catching the embarrassing moment.

The Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge appeared shocked as she arrived at London's Ealing Studios to meet the cast of hit ITV drama Downton Abbey in 2015. Perhaps it was the surprise of finding out how small the filming location is that caused this reaction, with Kate remarking: "The sets are so much smaller than you imagine- especially when you've got all the crew in here as well!"

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle share adorable new video of Archie to celebrate his first birthday

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have shared a new video of their son Archie to celebrate his first birthday.

Archie appears in the video as he sits on 38 year old Meghan's lap, listening to her reading children's book Duck! Rabbit!

Supporting charity Save The Children and their #SaveWithStories campaign, Meghan reads the book to Archie as he writhes around on her lap.

Archie helps his mum turn the pages of the book, while his dad Prince Harry can be heard giggling in the background.

  • Meghan Markle ‘hates her feet’ and gave ‘strict rules’ for them not to be filmed, claims videographer

However, it's not clear if Archie is a fan of the story, as he begins to cry just two pages in, but quickly starts laughing.

The parents also both quack at their son, imitating the story's title character.

Seemingly a keen reader, Archie grabs another book before getting to the end of Duck! Rabbit!

Adorably, at the end of the video, the one year old repeatedly says "Duck".

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess said they wanted to mark Archie’s birthday by highlighting the issues.

The Duke has long been active in charity work for children and young people, notably in Africa. The Duchess has spoken passionately about gender equality, focusing global attention on the disadvantages faced by girls in health, education and prospects for work.

Their reading is the latest high-profile addition to Save With Stories, in which famous people read favourite children’s books as part of a fundraising initiative on Instagram.

A spokesperson for the couple said: "The family is participating in the campaign across both the US and UK to help bring much-needed support to children who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As they celebrate this family moment, the Duke and Duchess wanted to continue to raise awareness around the urgency of bringing food and learning resources to millions of children."

The video comes after Archie's uncle and auntie Prince William and Kate Middleton lead tributes to the tot on his first birthday.

Kate and William paid tribute by sharing a photo from his christening last year on their Kensington Palace social media page.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrote: "Wishing Archie a very happy birthday today!," followed by a balloon emoji.

The Queen also paid tribute by sharing a photo of herself meeting Archie for the first time last year, when Meghan and Harry introduced their son to the world.

Alongside the photo, the Royal Family Twitter page wrote: "Happy Birthday to Archie Mountbatten-Windsor who is celebrating his 1st birthday today! Archie is The Queen’s eighth great-grandchild."

Clarence House, the residence of Harry's father Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, also added: "A very Happy Birthday to Archie, who turns one today.

Meghan Markle's Gold Necklaces Probably Caught Your Eye — Here's Where They're From

Meghan Markle’s Gold Necklaces Probably Caught Your Eye — Here’s Where They’re From

Meghan Markle joins the long list of celebrities and activists who narrate Disney films with Disneynature’s Elephant, now streaming on Disney+. In a just-released interview for Good Morning America, Meghan discusses her close ties to the project and her passion for learning about elephants. The interview was filmed in 2019, and we weren’t surprised to spot Meghan in her signature Suetables gold zodiac necklaces, which she wears regularly for Prince Harry and her son, Archie. She was last pictured in the Vanessa Coin Zodiac pendants when she paid a visit to Broom Farm Community Centre in Windsor, styling them with a lightweight white blouse.

This time around, Meghan wore them with a button-down similar to the one she enlisted her good friend Misha Nonoo to create for The Smart Set fashion collection, her previous collaboration with Smart Works. We’re not positive the shirt is the one she’s wearing on GMA, of course, but it’s definitely easy to assume she’d pull out a go-to, feel-good basic to talk about a documentary that’s so close to her heart. If you zoom in closely, you’ll see the zodiac chains we still think are super sweet. We loved them when she first debuted them, and we love them now. Scroll through to catch another glimpse, then pick up Meghan’s eco-friendly Suetables designs or a similar option.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pictured delivering food parcels in LA

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been settling into life in Los Angeles, having moved to the United States in March just before the coronavirus lockdown. The pair were pictured during a low-key outing earlier in the week as they delivered food parcels to residents in their new neighbourhood, West Hollywood. The happy couple were dressed down for the occasion and wearing protective face masks. Harry wore a grey polo shirt, jeans, lace-ups and a mauve baseball cap, while Meghan looked stylish in a black long-sleeved T-shirt, khaki trousers, white trainers and a blue baseball cap. As ever, they looked loved up as they walked hand-in-hand down the road to distribute meals to the vulnerable, as part of the Project Angel Food charity.

The couple’s charity work went down a treat with local residents. Dan Tyrell was expecting to receive meals from Project Angel Food and was shocked when he opened the door to royalty. “They were both nice and very down-to-earth people,” he told WEHOville. “They had masks on, and they were dressed down in jeans, but very nice jeans. I thought that tall red-headed guy looked pretty familiar, and that girl was very pretty. Then I saw the large black SUVs with the security guards behind them. If they had given me the heads up, I would have worn my tiara,” he joked.

Meghan Markle Seen for First Time on Zoom Call from L.A. with One of Her Beloved U.K. Charities

As she settles into her new home in Los Angeles, Meghan Markle is staying connected to the causes she continues to champion back in the U.K.

Earlier this week, the Duchess of Sussex had a video call with some of the women at the Hubb Community Kitchen, a group that came together to prepare fresh food for their local community after being displaced following the Grenfell tower fire in 2017. One of Meghan’s first acts as a royal was to collaborate with the women on a charity cookbook.

During the Zoom call on April 14, Meghan, who wore a simple white T-shirt with her hair pulled back, spoke with Hubb Community Kitchen manager Leila Hedjem, Cherine Mallah, Halima Al-Hudafi, Oxana Sinitsyna and Jennifer Odonkor about their latest food-giving project, and reminisced about the success of their Together: Our Community Cookbook.

“You showed up and you all had it in you and what was so great was back at that first day, and then however many visits later, and going, ‘Yeah, we’re just going to make a cookbook,’ ” Meghan said during the call.

She also voiced her backing for a campaign from the Evening Standard’s campaign to raise money to support “vital organizations in the wake of COVID-19.”

Chef Clare Smyth, who catered the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and has worked with the Hubb and the Flex Project, said, “Their work has never been more important than at this time. Countless charities are more in need now than ever. We must all join forces to take care of the most vulnerable in our society. Providing healthy and nutritious meals is crucial to helping people get through this.”

Mark Curtin, CEO of the Felix Project, added, “The women of Hubb Community Kitchen came together in the face of tragedy and they have stepped up yet again in the face of a global pandemic. At The Felix Project, we have also scaled up our operations very quickly in order to ensure we can meet the increased demand the crisis has created, both here in West London, and across the capital. We stand together with all of our partners to get food to people most at risk of experiencing hunger and malnutrition in this time of need.”

How the Royal Family's Favorite Fashion Brands Are Helping in the Fight Against Coronavirus

They’re also just one of many royal fashion favorites helping in the fight against COVID-19.

Stewart Parvin, couturier to the Queen, is also doing his bit to help. Having dressed the Queen since 2001, he’s currently busy manufacturing scrubs for a local hospital and encouraged others to get involved in a heartfelt message on Instagram.

“If you would like to get involved as a home sewer, or as a business with work space, there are several groups set up on social media that are co-ordinating the effort,” he wrote, adding: “As ever, our most grateful thanks to all those risking their own health and working tirelessly to look after and protect us all.”

Vin & Omi, the sustainable brand who have been collaborating with Prince Charles to turn his garden waste into avant-garde clothing, led the way several weeks ago, sewing masks for health workers using their own pattern and material scraps from their studio. They also called on all home sewers to join them by posting the instructions online.

The conceptual designers have so far made 3400 masks for NHS England, NHS Scotland, care homes and frontline workers in the South-East and Midlands of England.

Meanwhile, Huit jeans – a favorite of Meghan Markle – are also creating medical scrubs from their factory in Cadigan, Wales.

In Yorkshire, luxury fashion house Burberry — which holds warrants from both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles — has also switched from making trench coats in favor of surgical masks, non-surgical masks and gowns for use by medical staff and patients.

“In challenging times, we must pull together,” Marco Gobbetti, CEO of Burberry, said in a release, adding that Burberry is also funding research into a single-dose vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and donating to charities tackling food poverty across the UK, such as FareShare and The Felix Project.

“The whole team at Burberry is very proud to be able to support those who are working tirelessly to combat COVID-19, whether by treating patients, working to find a vaccine solution or helping provide food supplies to those in need at this time,” he added.

Prince Charles to Cover Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $2.5M Security Costs

The whole security protection for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has brought a diplomatic problem with President Donald Trump, who publicly refuses to pay for it.

AceShowbiz -It has been reported that Prince Charles is expected to pay Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle‘s security costs in the U.S. following their royal family exit in January. According to the new report, the Duke of Cornwall will fork over $2.5 million per year.

“Charles has agreed to pay a ‘private contribution’ to the Sussexes. It will not be revealed how much and what that is used for, but it is believed to be around £2 million,” a royal source claims to Daily Mail.

However, the insider hints that it will be difficult for Prince Charles to do that in a longer term. “The Prince of Wales does not have an infinite amount of money,” the source says of the 71-year-old royal, whose annual income from his private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, is reportedly around $26 million.

The whole security protection for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had brought a diplomatic problem with President Donald Trump. He publicly alluded that he had no intention to make the U.S. pay for it.

“I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada,” he wrote on Saturday, March 28 on Twitter. “Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

Meghan and Harry appeared to catch wind of the tweets before responding on Sunday. Chris Ship, royal correspondent for British television network ITV, wrote on Twitter, “A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan has just told us that ‘The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made.’ “

Meghan and Harry, alongside their 10-month-old son Archie, reportedly had left their Vancouver Island residence in Canada as they had decided to settle down in Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles, United of States. It was said that the couple chose to live “in a secluded compound” in the City of Angels, where Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland also lives. The two allegedly “haven’t ventured out” during the coronavirus crisis.”

Meghan Markle announces Disney role in first showbiz job

Meghan Markle's new job working with Disney has been unveiled, as the former actress gets set for Megxit.

Prince Harry's wife has bagged a role narrating Disney+'s new show Elephant.

Walt Disney Studios announced the news about Meghan's upcoming role on their official Twitter page today.

They tweeted: "Disneynature’s Elephant, an Original Movie narrated by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, starts streaming April 3, only on #DisneyPlus."

While Meghan will just be providing a narrating voiceover and won't appear on screen, undoubtedly her fans will be delighted, as it is her first job in the acting sphere since she appeared in Suits.

The hugely popular programme, which is available to stream on Netflix, saw Meghan play hot-shot lawyer Rachel Zane.

Meghan stepped away from the world of acting and her role on the show when her relationship with Harry got more serious, seeing her take on royal duties.

But now with Megxit around the corner, it looks like Meghan will be flexing her acting muscles once more.

It was recently reported that Meghan had been offered $1million to reprise her role in the hit show, but she didn't take up the offer.

Meghan's Disney announcement comes as the couple conduct their remaining duties in their final week as senior figures of the Royal Family, with Megxit scheduled in the diary for March 31.

As of April 1, the couples will officially start their lives outside of the royal spotlight.

Meghan and Harry have already relocated to Canada with baby Archie.

The happy family are currently self-isolating for coronavirus. There is nothing to suggest that any of them are unwell.
