Tunde's Debut Mixtape 'First Lap' Shines a Light on UK Road Rap

Mancunian road rapper Tunde has just dropped his debut mixtape First Lap, five years since bursting onto the scene with a slew of hard-hitting freestyles that pushed the City of Manchester to the absolute fullest.

Just like the material Tunde dropped before the release of First Lap, the whole project embraces his cut-throat rhymes and bouncy flow across a melange of instrumentals, showcasing his ability to be able to ride a variety of rap productions; from West Coast rap beats to more UK-centric drill creations that have taken the UK music scene by storm since the genre’s inception.

Tapping the likes of UK production front-runners like MKthePlug and Shadow On The Beat for producer credits, Tunde also keeps things close to home, enlisting Manchester-based producers LiTek, WhyJay, and Legendary Keyzz for help on the buttons.

And while features are scarce throughout the project, the only guest to lay rhymes on the tape is Essex-based rapper Potter Payper — who Hypebeast recently caught up with — for the stand-out record “Back 2 Back.” Other project highlights come in the form of the low-riding “Mayweather,” while previously-released singles such as “Fresh Home Freestyle,” “Loaf Man,” “Bruce Lee,” and “Crash Bandicoot” also make the cut.

Since his release from prison earlier this year, Tunde’s work rate has been second-to-none, and his hard work appears to be paying off, with First Lap heading for a top three chart position in its first week. Taking to social media, Tunde said: “Just got the phone call and been told we’re in the running for a top five [now top three] album in the charts. I need all of my supporters to keep pushing. First Lap is now £4.99 [GBP], the link is in my bio, and every download counts.”
