Unreleased Track By Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr Going Up For Auction
An unreleased track, titled “Angel In Disguise,” by former Beatles Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr is set to be auctioned on May 19.
The song, written and recorded by the duo after the Beatles split, was meant for Ringo’s 1992 solo album Time Takes Time.
However, the track did not become part of the LP.
The tape contains two versions of the song, one a rough demo that features Paul as the singer and the other one features the drummer on the lead vocals, accompanied by additional instruments and backing vocals.
A demo of another Ringo track, called “Everyone Wins,” also appears on the cassette that will go under the hammer at the auction.
The sheet music credits only McCartney as the writer. The lyrics include: “My name is Ritchie / Let me look into your eyes / Don’t be afraid I’m just an angel in disguise”. Ritchie refers to Starr’s given name Richard Starkey.
Omega Auctions will be brokering the auction of the tape, which is currently owned by former Radio Luxembourg DJ Tony Prince. It is expected that the auction will fetch $20,000 – $25,000. One fourth of the money raised will go to NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Urgent Appeal and the rest will be earmarked for Prince’s United DJs radio station project.
“It’s fantastic to be able to bring to the market a previously unheard and unreleased track,” Paul Fairweather of Omega Auctions said. “We think the track certainly had enough about it to be included in the album, and I am sure if Paul was to release this himself, it would certainly prove a hit with fans.”
