Cher Slams Trump for Seemingly Promoting Herd Immunity
Cher is over listening to Trump.
After the president spoke at a Philadelphia town hall hosted by ABC on Tuesday night, the iconic singer slammed the president for his comments on people developing herd immunity for COVID-19. Herd immunity is said to make the spread of a disease less likely once a large portion of a population becomes immune. It can be achieved through a vaccine or natural infection. However, researchers don’t suggest relying on herd immunity to battle this pandemic because it is currently unclear if COVID-19 infection creates immunity and, if it did, it would take a large portion of the U.S. population (approximately 200 million people) to be infected and to recover.
“Sure, with time, it goes away,” Trump said, per The Huffington Post. “And you’ll develop–you’ll develop herd—like a herd mentality. It’s going to be—it’s going to be herd-developed, and that’s going to happen. That will all happen. But with a vaccine, I think it will go away very quickly.”
Cher was quick to fire back, writing in a series of tweets, “Seems 2 Hundred Thousand Dead Isn’t Enough Carnage, Misery,💔4 Trump. We MUST BE AWARE When He Starts This Insane Treatment. We Must Protect Ourselves & Those Who Will Surely⚰.”
