Brian Cox says #MeToo women love it when he tells them to 'F**k off'
Succession actor Brian Cox, 73, says #MeToo-era women love it when he tells them to ‘F**k off’
As media mogul Logan Roy in the hit TV drama Succession, Brian Cox is the embodiment of toxic masculinity.
But the Scottish star today reveals that even members of the ‘Me Too’ movement are infatuated with the billionaire bully and plead to be verbally abused by the actor using his show catchphrase.
The 73-year-old tells BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs how he was approached with the strange request at a recent ‘Me Too’ book launch organised by actress Rosanna Arquette.
Cox, whose performance won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in January, denies Roy was based on a real- life media mogul. Instead, he says the inspiration for the character was much closer to home
He says: ‘As it [the meeting] ended I found myself surrounded by a lot of ladies, not all of them, but one or maybe two did ask me… could they video me telling them to F-off [sic]… I said is that really appropriate at a #MeToo meeting?’
Cox says the appeal of Roy illustrated ‘the confusion we live in’.
‘People kind of love this naked ambition… But at the same time, they go, ‘We love to hate him’, but actually they love to love him as well.’

‘I think Logan and I both have one thing in common, we find the human experiment rather disappointing,’ he says.
Cox, who lost his father to cancer when he was just eight, recalls a childhood in Dundee blighted by poverty and reveals his family would live a hand-to-mouth existence waiting for his mother’s widow’s pension to arrive.
‘Sometimes… we wouldn’t have any food… I would go across to the fish and chip shop and get batter bits from the back of the pan, and that would be tea.’
Desert Island Discs is on BBC Radio 4 today at 11am.
