I'm a spider expert – creepy crawlies love green walls, here's the colour they hate that keeps them out your home | The Sun

IT'S that time of year again – spider season.

People's homes are being invaded by creepy crawlies on the hunt for somewhere with warmth and moisture to mate.

And whilst not everyone is totally terrified of them, the majority of us can agree we would prefer not to share our bedrooms with these eight-legged gatecrashers.

To help keep the beasties at bay, spider experts at St Modwen Homes have pulled together four handy tips to follow to make your house a spider-free zone.

And the colour of your walls could be making all the difference…

Why so blue?

Spiders love the colour green, but absolutely despise the colour blue – light blue to be specific.

So, if your home is full of gorgeous green tones and you’re a certified arachnophobe, you might want to think about adding a few light blue additions into your rooms and garden to make those creepy crawlies think twice before visiting you.

Smell you later

It turns out that spiders are not fans of strong smells either.

In particular, they hate citrus, peppermint, vanilla, lavender, rose, and cinnamon scents.

So, simply add a few drops of your chosen scent into a spray bottle with some water to create your very own spider repellent to spritz around the house.

And bonus, it will make all your rooms smell amazing too.

Lights, camera… spiders

While lights may not directly attract spiders to your home, they do attract lots of other insects that they love to snack on.

So, if you have both outdoor and indoor lights on a lot, you’re likely to be hosting an all-you-can-eat buffet that spiders won’t be able to resist.

Don’t forget to de-clutter

Spiders thrive in messy and cluttered homes.

Piles of laundry, toys left out, and overflowing bookshelves provide lots of subtle hiding spots for these websters to enjoy.

Keeping your home and garden tidy is a simple way to stop those pesky guests from turning up so often.

One area in particular to pay attention to is underneath your bed – the dark and dusty climate is a favourite for arachnids.

Whilst there is no guarantee that these handy tips will keep every single spider out of your home, they will certainly help keep the number of unwanted guests to a minimum.

And if you do find yourself still suffering from a home invasion, here;s the simple 14p hack to protect your home from spiders.
